10 ways to keep your mind and body active this Spring.

Even though we all might still be homebound more than usual over the next few weeks and months, there are so many ways to feed your mind, body and soul!

The team at Lyndarum North has pulled together some ideas to help prevent cabin fever that don’t involve watching Netflix or Marie Kondo-ing your home. Are you ready to get your mind active and your body moving?!

1.             Download a language app
There are lots of online language courses and apps (many that are free) to help you learn to read, write, listen and speak hundreds of languages, all in the comfort of your home. All you need to do is download and listen! Parlez vous Francais?

2.             Start a veggie patch
What better time to get growing your own veggies, fruits or herbs than Spring! A good place to start is creating a kitchen garden of herbs or a small vegetable patch which will not only improve your sustainability game but prove a big money saver in the long run! Plus, you don’t need a huge yard to channel your green thumb – a small garden patch or a balcony can work perfectly!

3.             Explore the local wetlands
Enjoy the warming Spring weather by taking a walk around our community. At the entrance to Lyndarum North, our stunning wetlands feature native plants, a walking path, and a shaded reflection area with seating. It’s the perfect place to spend a sunny Spring afternoon.

4.             Join a Zoom class
Many people prefer to exercise in group settings, so it can be difficult to feel motivated during Victoria’s restriction periods. A great way to overcome this is to join a Zoom fitness class. This can not only help to keep your motivation levels high, but you’ll also be supporting a fitness professional, many of whom have taken a hit during Victoria’s restrictions. If you’d like to support a local yogi, you may like to join a class by Susie from Sassy Yoga. Susie is a certified Yoga teacher, who teaches Beginners Yoga, General Yoga, Kids Yoga and Sound Bowl Relaxation. She has taught in schools, martial arts gyms, in corporate settings, privately and voluntarily. She firmly believes that every body is a yoga body and it’s never too late to start practising yoga. Classes are available for all levels from beginners to the more advanced and there’s even classes for kids! During periods of restrictions, you can join a Sassy Yoga session on Zoom. Visit the Sassy Yoga website for more information: https://sassyyoga.com.au/

5.             Cook up a storm
What better way have some (messy) family fun than getting creative in the kitchen! Cakes, cookies, fruit salad, pizza, popcorn, tacos – there’s something for all tastes and abilities!

6.             Order in your favourite meal
At the end of a long day of working from home or entertaining the kids (or both!), cooking is the last thing you want to worry about. Luckily there’s plenty of local eateries that can drop delicious meals at your door. Some of our local favourites are The Greek Grill on High, Aroma Indian Cuisine and Harvest Pizza and Pasta.

7.             Read!
Now is the perfect time to stock up on books online and get stuck into some page turners while snuggled up on the couch. Whether you have your nose stuck in a new read or a classic favourite, there’s no better way to spend a Sunday afternoon!

8.          Start writing a book
Now’s the perfect opportunity to put your big ideas to paper and start writing that book or get creative with poetry.

9.          Watch a YouTube tutorial
Whether you want to learn how to make sourdough bread, improve your photography skills or make a table, there’s always a YouTube tutorial to help you get started.

10.          Download a fitness app
There are many ways to improve your fitness at home with free online resources and apps to help you stretch, strengthen and meditate! A few good apps to get you started include Centr, Nike Training Club and Sweat by Kayla Itsines.
