Personal Safety with Jimboomba State School

AVJennings at Riverton, Jimboomba is fortunate to have a strong relationship with the Jimboomba State School, so when the P&C approached us to sponsor a Personal Safety Program, we gladly accepted. Riverton recently provided funding for over 500 students from Prep to Year 3 to participate in an informative and interactive program hosted by Bravehearts.

Bravehearts provides industry-leading child protection training and education programs, specialist child sexual abuse counselling and support services, as well as research and lobbying.

On Tuesday 22nd and Thursday 24th March 2022, Jimboomba State School students attended “The Ditto Show”, a live, interactive 40-minute performance starring Bravehearts’ mascot ‘Ditto’. The show featured song, dance, and easy-to-remember messages about personal safety. These songs and messages were written by Bravehearts’ professional educators and child psychologists and are developmentally appropriate for the age group.

Year 2 Teacher, Carly Dunleavy said the program was a “fantastic way to teach children about their rights, and strategies to use if they are in situations where they feel uncomfortable”. The students got a lot out of the program too, with younger grades enjoying the songs and dancing and one Year 3 Student commenting that she learnt “if someone does something that you don’t like say no and go tell someone!”.

AVJennings at Riverton is proud to have supported such an important and valuable program at Jimboomba State School and we look forward to working together with the local community on more opportunities like this in the future.
